ATA100 HDD - I think not check it out!
has anybody else got an ASUS A7V with an IBM ATA100 HDD attched like the 60gxp or 75 gxp.

I ran sandra on my hdd and i was amazed!!!!!!!

Is the buffered read values supposed to be that low???. I know the seek is a bit high because I got accustic management on but even with it of the buffered read is still that low.

It's plugged into my onboard promise controller (PDC20265) not raid heres the boot info:

D1 IC35L0AVER07-0 LBA UltraDMA 5

dose anybody else have this problem.

amd tbird 800
ASUS a7v rev 1.02 (promise ata100 pdc20265)
IBM 60GXP 40gb 7200rpm hdd - IC35L0AVER07-0
windows 2000
promise driver version 1.60 build 33
matrox millenium g400 16mb SH
lots and lots of fans

as i understand it for both ide and scsi the rating of the drive/controller is a burst value not a sustained value, therefore your actual transfer rates will vary and quit often be significantly less.  
think of it as a 56k modem, when you connect a 56k modem to a 56k line it is possible to connect at 26400 or 28800 or 36000 etc or you connect at 56k and the hsot you connect to is only 28800. i do know that things like full drives (like you have) and drives that are fragmented will impact your read speed's because it has to search a lot more.

i would recommend to defrag with the option of having the most often read files at the beginning of the drive.

yes but compare that to a friends ata100 hdd a seagate I think on his a7v and he gets a burst rate of 80mb/s and I get 20mb/s  there is obviously something wrong

not to argue this, but (heh) you are comparing apples and oranges here. borrow his hd and ata100 cable and then run the tests again. my bet is that you will find that with his hd your scores are closer or you will be 1 step closer to troubleshooting your issue.

i agree, IBM is not known to manufacture the BEST harddrives, but they do make them good. I perfer Maxtor, they have been good to me.

Are you running win2000? It doesn't come with ata 100 support built in. You have to download some patch off of Microsoft's website.
