maybe my ears are just shaped differently than everyone else, but anything that goes inside my ears either doesnt fit or it hurts, and i love over the ear headphones so much more because of it. of course yrmv.

Most of the in-ear ones come with compressible foam inserts like earplugs that you squish, insert into your ear and then they expand to isolate noise.  I've never really heard of anyone having any issues with those because they are exactly like earplugs.  I can understand the other round rubber things hurting though.  They actually were slightly uncomfortable for me at first, but after about 3 days of use I like those so much more than the foam pieces.  But to each their own I guess.
