Looking for laptop tv tuner card
« on: November 03, 2008, 01:30:07 PM »

I'm looking for a tv tuner card for my laptop but i'm having trouble finding the right one. I've got a 1.80ghz amd processor with 1gb of ram and i'm looking for an internal card (Not usb unless i have to) that works with broadcast tv (Digital though since the stations are stopping analog signals) and has an fm tuner. I would like something with a small built in antenna if possible so i can pick up signals without having to carry around an antenna with my laptop. I'd also like something that isn't bulky and stands out .

I'm looking around newegg and bestbuy right now. Anybody have suggestions?

I think it's called pci express or something? It's like a card that slides into your laptop. There is a empty space on the side that's filled with a plastic piece that you just pop out and slide the card in. It's like those network cards you get from verizon and stuff. If i have to get usb that's ok but i'd prefer to use that port on my laptop since i use my usb ports fairly frequent and i never use this one.

I just want something with pherhaps a small built in antenna that i can recieve fm radio signals on my laptop aswell as broadcast tv and cable/satellite. It doesn't have to be great just as long as it works properly and does that job.

I found this one but i don't know much about them except what i read. This one looks like it might work?

Looks like a good one, but it will take quite a bit for the HD processing, you might want to throw some more ram in while you are at it.

assuming that is the kind of slot you have, go for it. i believe that is a relatively new kind though.
there are express 54, express 34, pcmcia slots, and cardbus slots

that's a new express card.  not that many laptops have them yet so make sure it'll work with yours before you buy.
