they can make them better, faster, stronger than before

WD released a new series of Raptor drives, faster than the previous generation with more storage space too. Should be available to buy for people in mid-May

All that I am hoping is that the price of the old ones will drop, and then I can pickup some of the clear cover ones for cheap

These are going for about $300 according to Toms.  Not too bad for what you get.  They still seem to be descendants of enterprise class drives, in this case, the 300GB 2.5in SAS drives that are in wide use now in server class hardware.  I should be seeing these soon in some blades that we're thinking of getting to reduce footprint and power consumption...
