sounds like the boot image is not being loaded. Either to a bios issue or if you are using a ISO image of the 2 XP maybe that part is damaged

I still think that there is no problem with the PC and the problem is with the media especially if the Windows 98 boot image worked.  Technically you should be able to boot with the 98 boot disk, fdisk, reboot, boot to Windows 98 disk again, format, swap in the XP media and then try installing from the command line if you want to go about it the hard way.

What version of XP are you trying to install and are you sure it's on bootable media?  IE, does it work fine in any other PC?

the thing is iv tryed 3 seperate drives, these CD's are the ones i use in my pc's for XP installs therefor they must be ok?

if i try to boot direct from the windows 95 cd iv got lying around it says couldn't find NTL something or other lol its really confusing... i think your right in what your saying iv kinda almost ruled out a dodgy flash to the bios becuase the 98 boot cd working its obiously showing that its working as such

ok after playing around with this hirens boot cd it turns out my bios date is..... 11/14/02?? so its obiously had no bios update?

so it runs basic cd's like diag cd's etc just not windows cd's... wtf???

is this windows installation happening on a fully blank, formatted hard disk? it sounds like there is another bootloader or disk formatting in the background that it doesn't like. NTLDR errors are generally seeking an existing boot record that it isn't finding.

theres currently no hdd on it, as im waiting on a converter would that make any differance?! never thought about that

ok... its working! what a n00b i am... it seems without a hdd it wont even consider running setup

didnt really think haha oops! iv got it running xp setup next to me on a 3.5 inch standard hdd

coool as! cheers anyhow guys i got my converter at my gf's house so il let u know when its 100% done and running XP
