Some of you may have seen this already as it's making the rounds on the net, but here's the video link that my Kingston rep sent over:

While those are incredible speeds, it leaves me wondering: why? What does faster ram afford you, especially in comparison to processor OC? I noticed the CAS latencies they had set were 9s and 10, and iirc, those are some pretty lame digits.

This is DDR3, 9/10 isn't that bad.

I always thought that we were trading one problem for another with bumping the bus speed on RAM.  Sure, we get faster and faster, but the latency keeps getting longer and longer.  It's like upping the rev limiter on a car but in the process you loose higher gears.  Pretty soon you start screaming along at 9000 RPM in first gear.  This might not hold true anymore, but I remember doing some rather extensive testing on my last rig when DDR2 was the hot new thing.  I found out that it was much, much better to run 1:2 at 400 with CL2 than it was to run 1:1 at 800 with CL5.  It seems like we have a similar issue here.

DDR3 speeds even with the Higher numbers is quicker than DDR2. Having played with both on the same mother board. I have had better luck OCing my processor with the DDR3 ram.
