External hard drive (or case)
« on: February 24, 2008, 06:13:23 PM »

I'm looking for an external hard drive or case that actually has the power supply built in.

I move a lot of data between home and work.  Well Friday in my hurry to leave work, I forgot the power supply  :( .  I did remember it before I got too far, but it could have been worse.

Does anyone know of an external drive that has the power supply built in?  Buying an extra cord is one thing, but some of the power supplies end up running half the price of the case.

Thanks
Brad

i can't say that i have ever seen any, but that does bring up a good point. quick, patent it!

the 2.5" sized drives can often be powered by usb alone, and don't need a seperate power supply.

Make your own power supply.  They all require 12V and you can more than likely get a connector to fit the drive at Radio Shack.

When I bought my nexstar, it came with a wiring diagram for the power plug.  So yeah, you should be able to make a second adapter for it easily enough.

I was going to say that my buddy has an external enclosure with internal power supply.  Only thing is, it is a 5 1/4" enclosure.
