I arranged them carefully in a box that I velcroed to the side of the case so I can remove it if I need to open it up.

just get a new inverter, and dont use tape, use heatshrink. well if u use electrical tape use a fair bit.

i had a USB hub blow on me once. there was a loud pop and the top flew off and then a puff of smoke came out. cheap d-link piece of crap

I think: could be:
-Fautly CCFL
-Inverter going bad, Will sell you one for very cheap already insalated
-Broke your ccfl itself
-you just are imagining things agian :)

Why insulate? Don't most inverters come insulated? Mine came in a nice lil case.

You could also put your inverter inside a Radio Shack project box
