XP1800 Running at 51 C Idle .... need help
« Reply #10 on: November 27, 2002, 08:07:05 PM »

Why does everyone keep slamming the Volcano 6+?  I have one on my AMD 1600 XP overclocked to 1540mhz and i get 37 idle and about 44 full load. For the price I paid ($23 Canadian), that pretty good. I agree a Volcano 9 is a great HSF, but this one isn't a piece of crap by a long shot.

thermalright SK-6 is the best AMD heatsink to my knowledge and I wouldnt be surprised if I'm wrong because I don't know much about AMD.

anyways your temps seem a bit high, a new HSF would be a good idea, and make sure you do a VERY THIN coat of AS3 (clean the old coat of thermal grease off the CPU).

Volcano 9 is mighty fine, so is the swiftech MCX(some numbers go here) and the thermalright SK-6 and the coolermaster HCC-001 (its somethin like that).

Anyways, good luck in bringing down your temps, but make no mistake, your temps ARE NOT HIGH enough to fry your CPU.

I bought a volcano 7+ and I took the high speed 60mm fan off of the volcano 6cu and mounted it at the back of my computer. With the vol 7+ on medium I'm getting 37C idle and 43C full load!!!! Thanks for the help all of you. It cost me $30 US for the new hsf.

Thanks again

43C w/xp1800+ @ 1.6 with 7+ at medium on high I get 40C
