Does disabling L2 cache reduce performace?
« on: October 01, 2002, 09:24:00 AM »

well does it?  ive heard that disabling it gives stability when ocing.  in prime95 enabling the L2 cache gave me shorter iteration times (.094sec).  when disabling it they took slightly longer (.134sec).

btw, what does disabling the L2 cache do to provide stability?

other than bumping up the Vcore, slowing FSB speed, are there any other ways to make an oc stable?

definitely, when you disable L2 you're gonna get a performace hit.  Its just like when you compare the P3's/P4's with Celerons, celerons are considered castrated pIII's because of their small cache -- that's why celeron's are so much cheaper.

Another way would be to increase cooling, get higher performance parts and just trial and error until you get a sweet spot.
