PSU cooling question
« on: August 08, 2002, 04:27:00 PM »

My PSU is loud. I am a recording engineer and am getting into computer based recording, and the PSU fan is too loud to allow for a precise listening / recording environment. What can I do to solve that. Someone told me to take the PSU out of the case and then take the fan off. This would allow the PSU to cool without a fan, but that sounds dangerous.
Thanks!

i highly dont reccomend that...and i doubt its ur psu anyway...i dont know of any psu fans being that loud....why dont you wear a good set of headphones? mostly all sound engineers do...if not.... buy some dynamat and put it all around inside your case...but read a tutorial before so u dont make any hazards for urself

you could do that -- but I'd suggest you alter the fans to run at only 7 volts...wheras the "gnd" wire is actually connected to the 5v line = 7v for the fan....this'll significantly reduce the fan speed and noise

just be careful while in the psu....they do have power even when off!

or you can get an enermax whisper psu, i have a normal enermax, and its extremely quiet, and apparently the whispers are much quieter than that.
