I checked the ledtronics site about those backlight leds.  They are positioned over the screen and they shed light on it.  Man, those blue ones are expensive, and a minimum order is around $25.  Anybody planning to do a group order on these, I'm in.

a hint to getting the solder off...get some desoldering braid or something from someplace, it makes getting solder of off PCB's much easier, a desoldering pump also works well, but the braid is much easier.

Those desoldering braids are the best desoldering stuff I have used.  They're like magic.  place the braid over the solder, press the iron on the braid, watch as the braid suck the solder by capillary action, lift, and there you go.  very clean as if you didn't solder the part at all.

I've been waiting for this for a long time.  I've had my digi doc for about a year and i hate the red screen yet i need it lit to read it.  It's a real delems because my case color scheme is blue and white.  Now my problem is solved.  Thanks.  Now i just need to figure out how to get the LEDs cheaper, only need 2 not 6.  Oh well, the answers to the hard problems often leave hard problems.

I used a soder sucker to get the soder out. It got some out. That didn't work to well. Then tried the braid. (I keep both on hand) that didn't work at all.
