Best Custom Computer Sites, You Opinion...
« on: July 20, 2002, 12:54:00 PM »

Now that the custom computer market has taken off, there are a long of companies..just a few of them are:

alienware.com
falcnonorthwest.com
abspc.com
ibuypower.com
cyberpowerinc.com
buyxtremegear.com
velocitymicro.com

And these are just the ones from PCGamer this month....I know there are many more, and I wanted to know which one you guys thought was the best, from prices, site design, customizeability and other stuff...

my personal favorite right now is ibuypower, they are $500 cheaper than alienware for the same system, WITH monitor...plus i want that raidmax 8 bay case *drools*

As far as systems go, I like the Falcon Northwest. For service I like Cyber Power. :)

ive only seen an alienware in person, someone in my dorm had one and i was very impressed with it.  I think they are great computers.  If i didnt build my own i would most likely buy one from them.

i don't deal w/ those type of retailers, so can't give an opinion of them.  I'm not a big fan of doors on the front bezel, so i don't really like alienware cases.  Saw a few @ best buy... the paint didn't even match.

Sad fact - my systems are faster than Falcon NW's. Probably because I don't chintz on components and rely on the name. (Yeah, how many of you have heard of relayPoint? That's what I thought.)

Nexfan.com, Adamant.com (bear in mind, they are LOCAL to me. I can go up and scream if needbe), mpi-pc.com (also local), newegg.com, Accubyte (very good folks, FYI), and a local shop are the only places I deal with anymore. I've been burned by:

EVERY Computer Shop in Aurora, OH. (They're ALL run by Russians and Ukranians. Hmm.)
I think it was Nexgen out of Illionois. Shipped previously-RMA'd hardware twice, assembled incorrectly three times, and billed five times. Oh, did I mention they also charged a restock fee on the incorrectly shipped gear?
Any NUMBER of companies that are now out of business directly due to their crap service.
