most likely they are neons. which are thicker and shorter than ccfl's but at that price they are hard to beat.  nice find

Actually if you put your hands ont those $10.00 neons you wont feel much. Your fan will produce more heat trying to cool your system than those will.

I plugged this 17" unit into the Cig lighter and it was warm, but got it hooked up now to an inverter not my PSU and it is running ambien temps. If the house is 75 the Neon is 75.
These dont produce as much light but for the price and moddability you cant beat it!

yeah.  i got one of them too.  another good part is that you CAN just cut off the cig. plug with these ones.  also you can remove the switch inside and hook the red and black wires together so you won't have to worry about the sound switch.  (or probably black and green if you want sound activated all the time)  and the colors they come in are red blue and purple.  blue sells quickly, followed by red, but there always seem to be purple ones there.

Comp USA has CCFL's in many colors already set for the computer and these produce brighter light than NEON!  Only $15.00 buckazoids

I got a 12" for 9.99 but with the inverter built into the end, it was too big for my case :(
