I'm having a hard time getting the air hot enough. I'm using a TetraTec 30 liter per hour aquarium pump, 3' of 1/4" silicone tubing, and the RadioShack 64-2060 desoldering iron. I'm using about 6 inches of 18 gauge copper speaker wire that I cleaned chemically to remove oxides, and have tried everything from stuffing the tip (and/or the chamber that the tip screws into) so full so that it slows down the airflow substantially, to putting in a small enough amount that the airflow is barely restricted. I've also tried wrapping it around a nail to give it a coiled shape, then packing it in the chamber that the tip screws into. The best I can do is get it to melt new solder off the roll from 1.5cm away if I hold it there for like 20 seconds. Am trying to desolder a surface mount resistor on a board and can't get it to move for $#!+

I've connected the pump to a fan speed controller to slow it down, I've covered the area with rosin flux...nothing works. Would really like to get this to work...any suggestions?
