P4 1.6A or 1.8A
« on: June 26, 2002, 09:04:00 AM »

Ok, I am ready to depart from my AMD 1800 system to a Overclockalicious Northwood.  After reading a ton of articles regarding these two cpus and their overclocking prowess, I cannot decide which is more likely to get the highet speed?

My board of choice will be the ASUS p4b533E, and the Corsair 512mb Pc3000.

Your input is critical and much appreciated.

W/ that kind of high-end ram, I would go w/ the 1.8.  But, you should calculate the $ difference between the 1.6 and 1.8.  My system runs on a 1.6A, but I got it up to 2.08 ghz so far.  Get some good cooling, you can get the 1.6 up to about 2.3 ghz.  GT did a review... check it out @ their main page.

I've boosted my 1.6a up to 2.4 with stock cooler and my full load temp was 46 C, haven't tried going higher yet but there no doubt it could with the stock cooler, waiting for my swiftech mcx-4000, then we'll see what this bad boy can do
