Well, I've got a 6870 now, and I don't trust its stock cooler, sitting at 56C doing nothing but decoding a 1080i video stream. The case is amply vented, and the CPU idles in the low 30s, so I assume it must be the mediocre stock cooler.
I was considering the Arctic Cooling Twin Turbo, knowing how much I liked the Accelero S2 I used on an old 3650. However, it appears to block three slots.
The board I'm on now is a MSI P67A-G45, which features three x1 slots, but not in the best possible layout for my needs: from the top, it goes 1, 16, 1, 1, 16, PCI, PCI
I need two x1 slots-- one for 802.11n, one for TV tuner. My options appear to be:
* Find a two-slot cooler
* Cram a x1 peripheral in the second video-card slot, which will likely throttle the top slot back to x8. I suspect this is likely not the performance mess I fear it would be.
* Move the 6870 to the lower slot, and then I can access all three x1 slots. That means "goodbye PCI options" and I'm not sure if the bottom slot will run at full speed anyway.
