« on: March 16, 2012, 10:01:17 PM »

There's been a thread like this for iOS for a bit, so why not one for android?

What are your favorite, most useful apps/Widgets/mods for android ics?

The YucA is on Android? what?

Indeed! I've been getting bored/tired of ios. Don't get me wrong, I still have my iphone but I've been wanting to play with android hoping 4.0 would be a better experience than I had in the past...

A buddy was selling a Nook Color for a quick fifty, so I scooped it up. I already threw on a nightly build of ICS from xda-dev forum on the system memory, ran some scripts, and its been running pretty damn rock solid. Battery lasts more than a day with normal usage which is something I was worried about as I've always had issues with android and battery life.

I already have a few things installed like Gtalk, Beautiful Widgets, Terminal Emulator, ES file manager, etc...

Is mini dolphin browser much better than the factory one?

Thanks for that list, it gives me a few things to search for...

But yes, This is making me want to get rid of my iphone for one of the new phones. Ed, How do you like your Nexus? Have you compared it to any samsungs?

I'm on Tmo, so my recent list of phones use within the past year:

G2 -> LG G2x -> MT4G -> Sensation -> SGS2 -> Nexus S

Nothing beats the development on the Google Nexus phones. Crack flashing like it's my day job.

I think I went back to the NS because of the size. I'm actually not a fan of displays greater than 4".

Out of the bunch, the SGS2 was the most powerful. That thing didn't skip a beat with anything I threw at it.

Thats exactly what I wanted to hear. When I had the EVO, the first thing I got tired of was the size - the novelty of it wore out quick. I've never had the chance to play with the Nexus, so its nice to hear its not a monster like most others...

Which of my Androids? I have 3 tablets of various sizes and functions and 5 phones I manage (my current personal phone, my deprecated personal phone, my work phone, and my SO's phone)

God i love wifi file explorer. that is such an awesome app.

WiFi File Explorer is one of my favorites.

My most used apps:

  • ADW Launcher (my launcher of choice)
  • WiFi File Explorer
  • ES File Explorer
  • App 2 SD
  • No Lock (quickly disables the lock screen)
  • Silver Edit
  • IMDB
  • Opera Mobile (not to be confused with Opera Mini)
  • MX Video Player
  • UPnPlay
  • XBMC Remote
  • Friend Caster (an alternate Facebook app)
  • Google Music (I'm sorry none of the others come close, I've tried them all. That isn't to say its good, just better than the rest)
  • Google Calendar
  • Google Reader
  • Google Maps
  • Google Sky Map (if there is a better show-off app I haven't found it)
  • Google Plus (Yes someone uses it)

I also have a few different camera apps I like

  • Fast Burst Camera (for burst shots)
  • Insta Camera (for taking photos very quickly with a low amount of time required from launch to snapped photo)
  • Photoaf
  • Camera Zoom FX

I'm always running a custom ROM if I can.

Hands down my favorite Android manufacturer is HTC (and my Dinc2). Their stuff is easy to unlock, good quality at a good price, and they listen to the community.

Sony: Was bad at Android (X10) but has gotten much better
Motorola: Was good at Android (OG Droid) but has gotten much worse
Lenovo: Decent hardware, decent price, not the best support, not a large enough community following
Barnes and Noble: Solid build quality with a good sized community following

I think my next phone will be an HTC One X and my next tablet will be (if they make them) the Toshiba 13 incher that has been seen around.

Woo more apps to play with

urgannagru-

Any reason you go for MX player over VLC? VLC seems to run pretty damn solid on this little tablet...

The build I'm currently rocking has the trebuchet launcher which I'm digging quite a bit...

I like google music too. It's nice to have all that music in THECLOUD for freeeeeeee!

Ed -

What size screen does that nexus of yours have?

edit - actually just realized theres the nexus S and the GALAXY NEXUS.
