Video card problem... wtf?
« on: April 22, 2011, 11:31:13 PM »

So here's the deal

Video Card A
Video Card B

Computer A
Computer B

Video Card A works with both Computer A and Computer B
Video Card B works with only computer A

There are no compatibility issues because Video Card B was always used on Computer B.

Any ideas what the problem could be?  I've switched multiple times

Are card A and card B exacty the same brand and type? i had 2 nvidia cards that were different  and one would work in one PC and not in the other. Turned out one card would not work properly with the newer drivers of the newer card. Im not sure what was up but i had to use way older drivers for the older card not to malfunction.

Assuming we're talking about PCI-E cards here, I'm going to guess Computer A is newer and Computer B is older, or at least the motherboards are.

Computer A probably is running PCI-E 2.0 while Computer B is PCI-E 1.1

Video Card B is probably newer, it's probably PCI-E 2.0 which won't run on PCI-E 1.1 compliant motherboards.  PCI-E 2.0 came out around Nvidia 8xxx cards I believe.

Video card A is probably older so it's probably PCI-E 1.1, which works in both 1.1 and 2.0 motherboards.
