Dual Monitor set up
« on: November 18, 2009, 03:32:02 AM »

I have recently decided that I would like to get a dual monitor set up going.  I was thinking I would have a nice monitor in the horizontal position and the other in the vertical position.  I am not looking at anything bigger than a 24"(and even that is probably bigger than I want to go).  I was wondering if anyone had any suggestions. I am not looking to break the bank on this since I don't really watch movies on my computer very often nor do I do any heavy gaming on it anymore(although I do play battlefield heroes and maybe l4d2).  I just want to increase my productivity some and I think this could really help.  Sorry if this is a bit vague, but I don't really have a lot of requirements other than it looks pretty good, 20"-24" range, cheap as possible without sacrificing too much quality.

Thanks in advance.

Looks pretty good for what? If you do graphic design, photography, or anything else that needs color accuracy, you're going to want a nice monitor anyways. If you're just reading text then anything will do.

PS: I'm pretty sure that the aforementioned Dell monitor won't do, unless you don't want one that will swivel into a vertical position. Not all monitors can do that, though you can always buy a monitor stand that will. At that price though you might as well have spent the extra money on a monitor that already comes with one.

I just want a main screen that looks pretty good for general stuff.  I watch a movie from time to time, but not very often, I do some simple picture editing, and I do some gaming on the machine, but not a lot.  So I really just need a good general all around monitor.  That 24" one may work well for the horizontal monitor, but I don't think I need anything bigger than a 20" for my vertical monitor.

Thanks again for the help.

Acer 22" 1080p Widescreen LCD Display w/ HDMI for $120 + free shipping

You can probably get it cheaper with Bing cash back of 6.5%, but with a coupon code then who knows.

EDIT:

And get this:

I'd try to find a non-TN monitor.

Since TN has crap top-to-bottom viewing angles, the rotated one will have crap left-to-right angles.

Thanks for the suggestion.  I went with that deal except I got a 23 and a 22 inch.  Now I just have to wait for them to come in.
