LED monitors?!
« on: October 12, 2009, 11:55:52 AM »

I just saw this in a spoofee deal:

http://accessories.us.dell.com/sna/productdetail.aspx?sku=320-7956&cs=04&c=us&l=en&dgc=BF&cid=7421&lid=197378

Seems like monitors now come in the LED varieties now, like those LED HDTV's.  I'm in the market for a nice 24" widescreen, maybe this should be another considerable choice.  Anyone has one already?

There are surprisingly very, very few available on the market

There is a new Asus LG I believe, an old Viewsonic, and a Samsung I believe (oh, and a mac one)
(and apparently a Dell one now)

I really want to buy an LED LCD (for good color accuracy), but they are waaay to expensive (about 1.5-2x the cost) (though that Dell is a low price, but I don't trust Dell monitors).

Here is a link to the LG LED I saw advertised while back on Newegg

it has HDMI

PS: read the comments. Some LED monitors still have a bad viewable angle problem

Of course they still have the viewing angle problem.  All they are doing is putting a better backlight through a crappy TN panel.  I'd still go with a PVA or IPS panel for the cost instead of a better backlight.

Well thats part of it. The other part is that LED light is inherently directional. This is partially why its harder to make an LED lightbulb. But I agree about the TN panel.

The panel type is one reason why Apple monitors cost more. I wanted to get an Apple LED LCD, but there is no hardware control over them (brightness contrast color etc), making it nearly useless for a windows PC.

They don't typically list the type of panel they have on store sites.  Probably because they won't sell as much.  I know I saw a site that lists monitor models and what kind of panels they have.  I just can't get the right google search string.
