Ra - Acer is offering a free Win 7 Home upgrade once it's release. It comes preloaded with Vista.

YucA - this isn't considered a netbook I think, but it sure kills em! :P

I can play HD content aok at 720p. Youtube "HD" content streams fine as well. I used to find my Dell Mini to have awful video streaming power. I don't know if it was the CPU, video, or crappy SSD. I would drop frames like no one's business. Even my older 700m would woop it's ass.

The Intel video isn't great, but I wasn't using this to game. I did load up Steam and installed CS:S. It actually ran pretty well. I got killed many a times, but I chalk that up to me sucking from not playing for so long.

Seriously, the price vs size vs weight vs performance of this 1410 makes it so awesome. I spend 80% of my day sitting or standing in a datacenter/server room/telco closet. It was either let my arm get really strong like Homer Simpson with my old 7 1/4lb 15.4" monster, or give myself a break with this 3lb'er :)

I was persuaded to purchase the Acer 1410 because of screen size and keyboard.  I am happy with everything BUT I find the wireless card is virtually useless in picking up a signal in my house.  I had a Dell inspiron that was 5 years old and I wanted to have something much more portable and lightweight, but compared to what I could get in the old dell, this netbook won't help my portability around the house at all.  Should I consider swapping out the wireless card or just returning this particular machine???  Thanks for any advice or replies!

I have had no problems with the wireless. I can connect to my AP on another floor in my house without skippin a beat.

I assume latest drivers have been installed?

the new acer 1810tz came out which is essentially the same as the 1410 but carries a SU4100 dual core processor.  That's the laptop for me...

available on amazon for $550.

Well then how about this:

Dual core Celeron, $400.  I think I'd take this over the Core 2 Solo CPU.

Better, but at 10W it kills the battery that much faster. It's a tough balancing act to find a light weight unit that can pack enough juice without draining your battery. Not fond of the 1M cache tho :(

However, I am happy it's now at the price point of around 400 for a dual core, albeit a lower end one. Now we just need more offerings from other makers to drive prices down.

Well, at least on amazon, the $399 acer is a celeron.  The single core 2 is $437.  and I think you get more for the $113 difference than an extra core- 3GB of RAM, 320GB HDD, 802.11N, and windows 7 (though I assume you get an upgrade coupon with the 1410, it's still a hassle).  Maybe not worth it but I don't want to be disappointed again, as I was with my atom netbook.  I want something a little more powerful.  I want to be able to play quicktime, hulu and you tube HD content without stuttering.
