Also, from a product standpoint, remember there are a substantial part of the market way less comfortable with re-wiring their home than the GTF crowd is.  They would buy wireless for desktops because there's NO way they'd have the mechanical competence to do anything other than select the SSID of a wireless router/modem/waffle iron provided by their ISP.  I'm sort of surprised a lot of the consumer-market desktops don't come with built-in 802.11 now for that reason.
