radeon ati his 2600 xt agp
« on: February 12, 2009, 01:38:00 AM »

i am having some problems finding the drivers for a graphics card that i just bought. the radeon ATI 2600 xt agp. i installed the cd drivers that come with it. I went to the ATI website and the drivers there are for pci only, or at least that i could find. I also went to the HIS website and downloaded their driver that they had and when i load the driver it crashes my system when loading windows it enters an infinite loop from the bios loadup to the windows loading screen and then it loses dvi signal and restarts. so i restarted in safe mode and uninstalled the drivers, so im back to square one again. I want to update the drivers so i can get full potential of the card.

here is the link to the card i bought

my specs are
xp pro os
asus p4p 800e delux mb
2 gigs of corsair
3.0 intel chipstet
200 gig hard drive that is not full
800 watt power supply

maybe its because its memory is ddr3 and my mb takes ddr regular ram. that may be a dumb comment but i'm considering everything at this point.

Graphics cards use GDDR3 not DDR3, quite different.  That has no relation to your problem.  Have you tried Omega Drivers?

Maybe the card is just bad.

You might want to check and see if there are newer drivers for your board. Also is AGP 8x enabled in your BIOS?

Honestly, I would throw a spare HDD in, install Windows and give the drivers a shot. If it still loops try older drivers or the ones that are "PCI only" I have personally never heard of drivers that only work for a specific interface, even back in the Windows 95 days.

i just updated my bios yesterday and i also looked in the bios for the agp 8x mod and there is not one, on the ati drivers that i got in the box allows me to change it to 4x but thats it. ill try to do a fresh windows thing and see if that works or maybe ill give the pci only a shot as well.

I don't think your computer is going to allow the card to work to it's full potential.  The AGP slot alone is a major limiting factor.
