Making circuit to run a heater element from 120V a/c
« on: July 20, 2008, 10:48:59 PM »

I am working on a project and need to find a way to repair an electronic i bought.  Basically, i need to run a 110V, 40watt heater element by plugging it into a/c.   Or I need another good way to generate heat from a/c.

Can anyone help me design a circuit.

I have a few supplies from the electronic already. basically it is a heater element, digital display to tell current temp, potentiometer to control temperature, and some status leds.

I am willing to ditch the screen because i believe it is the cause of the problem.

Can i just take apart a cheap soldering iron and use it as a heating element? and possible vary the temperature with a rheostat?
