so since i moved my wonderful buffalo whr-hp-g54 with dd-wrt on it has been in a box in my bedroom, never got around to putting it back in, since there was already a linksys here. well now, the linksys is doing what the pile (4 of them) all had done, slowly slowing everything down and being generally annoying. when i normally get 6-8mbps connection, and a simple page like google takes seven thousand hours to load, you know theres an issue. so i finally got around to plugging my buffalo back in, and much to my absolute horror, the lights just flashed once and then nothing else. after plugging it in a few more times and hitting the reset button, nothing happens when i plug it in anymore. apparently they dont sell it anymore and even on **** its like $130 for a new one, which is way more than i want to spend. so im looking for a new one, its gotta support dd-wrt (yes i know where the list of supported devices is, but it has no mention of a rating on quality or anything). so if any of you have a suggestion on a new good (hopefully cheap) router for me to get and put dd-wrt on id appreciate it. and hopefully it doesnt slow down to zero speed before i get a new one, or at least the suggestions ;-)

Well, I know you don't like Linksys, but the WRT54G with stock firmware (updated to a fairly recent stock one) I bought for $20 at a thrift shop has been working quite well for me for two years.  I power-cycled it for the first time in like six months because it seemed to be getting bound up-- and EVERY alternative firmware works with the WRT54G, if you get an old enough one, no?

i dont really have anything against linksys per say, but considering my stack of dead routers consists of a wrt54g  v3, v6, and v8, im not sure i want to get another. the v3 was awesome, until it did the exact same thing, and the v8 didnt seem to have any sort of speed to the connection to begin with. when i threw the buffalo in there all the issues were just gone, and they never came back, so its even stranger why it just all of a sudden doesnt power on anymore

This was told to me by commodore_dude, who said that Buffalo lost the ability to sell routers (wifi?) in the US. Which is why you don't see it anymore except on ****.

Ok meander, here's the next best router to get:

ASUS WL-520gU

Fully hackable using DD-WRT, Tomato, etc.

Some say it's identical to the now very hard to get Buffalo.
