CPU temperatures high?
« on: November 28, 2007, 11:30:57 PM »

Hey, I have a Core 2 Duo (e6300).  1.86ghz.

Its using the stock cooler.  It idles at about 50c.  I tried using arctic silver5.  and that hasnt lowered the temps.  is 50c idle, and 60c load high?

I know its not TOO high, but was wondering if this is a normal temp for my CPU.  Friend says his is 27c idle, and 55c load with stock cooler.

It's a little warm.  My E6750 is at 43/37c core temperatures, at 25-30% load (HDTV card on), with the fan RPMs spun down quite low (917 at the moment) on the stock cooler.

(ignore sig; board is now Gigabyte P35-DS3L, clock is 2667; the Abit was buggier than a box of cereal left open for a year)

The stock cooler is an utter pain to install... it doesn't lock down at the level you expect it to.  I end up spending 20 minutes fighting with it when I install it.  Why bolts or more conventional push-pins weren't good enough for Intel, I'll never know.

Little high, but nothing to worry about.  All the newer CPUs (Pentium D and up) run a lot hotter than was typical for prior CPUs.  On a Core 2 you don't need to get concerned until the 75-80C mark.

don't forget that it depends on your case and it's cooling as well. what kind of case do you have with how many / what size fans?

since your using a stock cooler, that is normal. If you get a better cooler you can get yours down.

Using an antec P182, its got 4*120mm fans.

Suppose its an acceptable temperature, but I'd like to oc a little. and temps might become an issue then

You need a better HS before you start OCing at all.
