I have to wonder if there is anything in the heatpipe.  If the coolant was left out somehow during manufacturing, then it would be useless.  I agree that if it's hot enough that you can't touch it, then there is something definitely wrong.

Before I left the office I ordered...

2 x Tt Extreme Spirit II
(figured I might as well plop on the southbridge as well so I can remove both sets of heatsink/heatpipe rigs on the m/b)

1 x Thermalright I/O Side MOSFET Heatsink (HR-09U Type 2)

1 x Thermalright Up Side MOSFET Heatsink (HR-09S Type 2)

:sigh: that it for this rig's budget for a while, lol.

I finally got the Tt Spirit Extreme II's in the mail and just finished the installation of them.  man, I have to tell you, the thermal adhesive they use is rock hard and has a tensile strength that will really make you cringe a bit when you hear the way it "snaps" off.  :shudder:

I also had to mod the stock video card cooler by grabbing a hotknife and carving out a small port to allow the posts of the new chipset cooler to fit inside it - was preventing the video card from seating properly in the PCI-e slot...

MCP55XE chipset is reporting only 49C now...

Your links to enlarge the pics don't work, but oh well.  Glad you got it working.

if you edit the links with a bit of trickery the images are there
for example,
http://i87.photobucket.com/albums/k156/arjo_reich/computers/overclocking/new%20coolers/new_coolers_09.jpg
not the
http://"http//i87.photobucket.com/albums/k156/arjo_reich/computers/overclocking/new%20coolers/new_coolers_09.jpg%22
that opens up once you click on the original link

I fixed the links, apparently the forum doesn't like quoted urls in the url tag...
