Hello Folks,

I would like to supply the fan's rpm to the controller board. Constant or variable rpm does nto matter but it should not be zero.

The fan has a 3-pin header (Y-R-B) going into the control board. Yellow carries signal/sense/rpm to the control board as far as i can see.

What I am trying to do is to run my Zalman Reserator XT kit without the fan. It won't run when the fan is not spinning.

What can i do to relay a fan speed to the control board without running a fan?

Thank you in advance for your time.

What motherboard do you have?  Are you sure you can't turn that protection off in the BIOS?

Mobo is not important. The fan is not connecting to the mobo. It is connecting to an external unit's control board.

http://pinouts.ru/Power/wtxadd_pinout.shtml  Shows 22 pin mobo connector pinout
(If you had a fan you could split the signal from pin 20 to your external circuit)

Hope this can help somehow

Hello damaged,

I am not connecting it to a motherboard or 22 pins...

The fan has 3 cables: Y-R-B... and it connects to the circuit board which also has 3-pins: Y-R-B.

So question is: How to use any device to relay the rpm signal (Yellow wire) to the Y-pin on the control board in order to eliminate the fan altogether without setting off the alarms.

What happens if I jumper the pins YELLOW (signal) and RED (power)? Could that trick the controllor board thinking the fan is always on and spinning?

The first link i gave you should start you off... you need to give it 2 pulses (+5vdc) per rev, so find the minimum revs needed before your device shuts down... i'm not real sure beyond that.

no. that wont work.  the shortest and simplest solution to your problem would be to design a small circuit that send square wave pulses to the "YELLOW" pin at a frequency proportional to the RPM's of the fan you are looking to fake.

This can be done by using a 555 timer circuit for mere pennies!

Now, all you need to do is figure out what frequency the pulses need to be, then do a google search for 555 timer circuit, there are LOTS of examples on the "internet".

dude.
