Just an FYI:
Even if the OS someone left on the drive was something legally transferable you'd want to start from scratch so the proper drivers get loaded.

as long as the drive was sysprep'd before the last shutdown, the proper drivers will get loaded when the drive is installed in the new host through mini-setup.

At least enough drivers to get the system up and running and you can fix any problems after that with windows update and other vendor specific drivers (i.e. catalyst or detonator, etc)

Oh, and check craigslist if you have one local.  Otherwise, remember that 15GB HDD are old enough to possibly be 5400rpm and ATA33 so it may not have the performance you're used to with almost anything over 40GB.

Not really looking for high performance. I just need a cheap internal ide hd for my g/f's computer with a functioning operating system. It already has a 40gb that will be used for file storage. I had one i was going to give her that i pulled from a junk computer i picked up off the side of the road (I sh*t you not,the mothebroard and cpu actually work!) but sadly the only thing that i can tell is ruined was the hard drive that i needed

Crappy luck..
