Vinyl dye on chair
« on: March 20, 2007, 03:00:19 PM »

So I got this free computer chair from work.  It comfy, but an ugly shade of gray.  I believe I can use black vinyl dye to change the color of the chair, right?  It will just change the color of the artificial fabric and not change the comfort of the chair or the color of the fabric of the person sitting on the chair, correct?

I figure I'm going to get a yes, but it never hurts to check.

I am going to say you need the true version of the Die not the knock off Fusion.

I would test is a small area that will not be seen to get teh full understanding on how it will effect the chair and how long it takes to dry (So it doesnt change the color of your best blue jeans)

Yea, I was going to get the good stuff at an auto store.  And correct me if I'm wrong, but Fusion isn't dye it is paint with 'special' plastic bonding abilities.

Correct, Fusion just bonds to plastics better.

Flip the chair over and try the die on a small piece first ;)

Yes, go with the auto dye, not the Fusion and do post pics!

Considering the original purpose of vinyl dye is for automotive dashes and upholstery, I think it would work quite well.
