Second Video Card
« on: February 02, 2007, 03:51:42 PM »

I am looking to install a second video card in my current setup to output to a TV. I already have two monitors so I will need to purchase a second video card. I have an A8N-SLI Deluxe motherboard and was wondering if I could install a second pci-e video card as I have a free slot. I am hoping this would work but all the information I have found online only seems to talk about agp or regular pci cards.

i dont see why, if your motherboard has 2 pci-e slots, that it wouldnt work with 2 non-sli video cards. getting a standard pci video card would also work, seeing as how all you are using it for is tv.

i have never done sli myself, but from what i recall you can still use all of the video out ports, so using sli would also give the option of more monitors wouldnt it?

The current video card I have is not SLI / Crossfire capable but the newer one will be for future upgrade useability. So can anyone confirm that I can use a second PCI-E video card without issues?

Crossfire and SLI are two different types of technology that are not interchangeable.  Your motherboard has to support that specific technology from the get go.  As for what you want to do now, there's no reason why you can't just install whatever PCI-E graphics card you want in that 2nd slot and use it as a second card.  Have at it! :-)

I think new Geforce 8400GS would be excellent for TV out functions.
