Cheap circuit building ideas...
« on: December 09, 2006, 07:56:44 PM »

I used glue all parts upside-down (legs up...) onto just a cardboard, mark the pins and then use very thin, lacquered copper wire (fed via coil soldered to a thin brass tube) to wrap/connect the parts according to the schematic. Finally I soldered the wrap connections, burning off the lacquer and it made perfect solder joints.
Best is to put the schematic into a plastic envelope and mark all done part connections. Complex, digital circuits, requiring multiple connections are easily done, because 100 copper wire connection take up almost no room! You can even guide them by gluing little posts onto the cardboard. I use a little drop of UHU glue for strength.
In my basking (street performing) audio I even made up a dual tube preamp, running on 12V off the battery. All done the cheap way without PC- board.

It's sometimes called "dead-bug" construction.
