the problem with that is keeping the chain connected to the bottle. I would somehow have to put something on the end of the chain to keep it from coming through the bottle. Must be bigger than the hole i drill but smaller than the opening of the bottle.

Why not use the neck of the bottle to hold the chain .. or wrap some wire around the neck and hold it. Something like they use for some cansters, or the way the hold the corks on campaine bottles.

besure to get a good glass cutting bit and you should be fine if you have to cut the bottles.

I'm sure he wouldn't mind the process of getting new bottle though...

Haha yeah the process of getting the bottles is part of the fun. I want to hang the bottles so it will hang and act like a real chandelier. I want to hang the bottles from the bottom because that will give the chandelier a nice shape. I am predicting this will be rather elegant once done, it is the champagne of beers so it has to be.

Well I would cut 2 small holes and run some hanging wire through those to for the hanging part and then another hole for the power leads maybe 2 pin molex to run the power to the bottle and have ~ 5/6 light each using the 12V rail.

If you do it right you would be able to change out the LED's like standard light bulbs as well. I then would go with 5 leds because you will have some resistance at the plugs and 6 would drop them by .1 v + plugs resistance.

to bad I am not a beer drinker .. I would be able to give you an example.

I will probably wire the bottles up in banks to attach to a molex. There is going to be alot of bottles so I dont want that many molexes used because they would be harder to hide. If this goes well I have a voka bottle project line up too!

The frosted vodka bottles would look really cool with a white glow eminating from them.  If I get bored maybe I'll make a vodka bottle LED lamp using a laptop power brick.  I'll just have to get in the mood for martini's again.
