Not to be outdone by the Japanese, our propellorheaded pals at IBM have announced a 1000 fold improvement:

IBM Research said this week that it has discovered a miniscule light source from carbon nanotubes 1,000 times brighter than previously seen with light-emitting diodes.

The implications of the discovery could mean better understanding of interactions between electrons and holes (active carriers with a positive charge) on the conductor material--in this case nanotubes--or within tiny environments, according to Jia Chen, research staff member at IBM Research.

Any relation to Ed?

Okay everybody go ahead and just smash all the light bulbs you can find right now. By next week I expect an announcement from Korea that their technology actually sucks darkness from the room, and converts it to candy and free MP3 downloads.
