see the problem with that is i got my solderer from radio shack and after the first time all this "stuff" (metal, oxidation) is formed on the tip, and it dosent heat anymnore, so im forced to use the sides of the solder.

My second problem is the tinning of the wires, i have a spool of solder which im not sure if i have to use the whole spool or cut of little pieces.

Also, i tried desoldering once before, but the solder stayed on the port mostly because the ports are slightly indented.

And the reason the wires look so bad is because after my intial mess up, there were only certain spots of visible "port" so i needed to use single wires for accuracy, but its very possible i missed a connection.
Most Radio shack soldering Irons have replaceable tips. Have you tryed that?? That could be the reason you have the problem soldering the conections (poor tip or using a side of the Iron can make it hard for detailed work.

Tinning .. I use about a piece that is apox 6-8" long and use about 1 drop on the tip of the Iron to coat the wires.

Desodering takes either a sucktion tool (something that will pull the hot soder away) or the Braided wire can pull it away from the board.

Guide: CVS Digital Camcorder Modding

CVS Digital Camcorder Modding

I have built a cable from the palm III and am able to download movies from the camera. They are listed as Movie_0001.avi with a 0 K size. They will not play.

The camera info is: FW ver 3.40 and the PCB ver is B1.
I have tried several of the different versions of Ops_libusb-0.1.10.1.exe and other things I have downloaded, and still can't view any of the movies. Is there a complete guide of what is needed for use with the model camera I have?
The inf file I built reads:

i have a desolderer, from radio shack with the suction bulb, but the first time i messed up, i desoldered, but some of the solder stayed on the board (where the access ports are) so that only small portions of the port were unsoldered, which leads me to my current problem.

0 bite movies tend to be a communitation error during transfer. Cable moves, loose inside, poor contacts with the maintaince ports.

Your drivers look good and it is reconizing the camcorder fine if you get to the point of being able to download.

Ipenetrate: you got a PM.

Here's someone selling a camcorder on e bay with a usb connection installed on the cam:

###############

Link deleted.

If you tried a bit harder, maybe it wouldn't have been that easy to figure out.

Let's see, auction location is Austin, TX.

Your IP traces back to Austin, TX...hrmmm?

Don't even think about trying to make money off of someone here.

I bought two of these camcorders to play around with, but it seems that I can't access the videos. I assume this is due to the higher revision of firmware. Mine says firmware 3.62 and PCB ver. B3.

I've modded a nice little Palm IIIc cradle for mine, which is confirmed working and I have the quickinstaller 2.11 installed. I can open the camcorder, but when I try to unlock it I get "The challenge key was the same as response. Moving on to try known keys... Checking if the Reset key matches the challenge. Sorry, your camcorder cannot be unlocked with any known method."

Is there any reliable word on whether or not the camcorders with the 3.62 firmware are hackable or if there is a workaround for these? The cradle turned out well and I hate to let these cams go to waste.

That is the new version of firmware with the patch in place to fix the backdoor we used in the 3.40 version (i.e. the Guild was writen with at the time). I do know people are working on it.  The method right now can lead to a dead camcord if you are not lucky at all. It requires shorting out pins on one of the chips (http://camerahacks.10.forumer.com/viewtopic.php?t=1311&sid=a04f7b827c04e4c8699a59071de91b63).

until the find a better way to fix it and I try it out for my self. It is a do at your own risk thing.
