Review: Ultra X-Connect 500W Power Supply

Quote
The Ultra X-Connect is rated at a beefy 500W, which should more than enough for most modern day machines. That's actually not the selling point of this model. Instead of the typical wires, the design is made to incorporate modular wires. Use what you need, remove what you don't.

I have one fo these and it works pretty well. The cables are way too stiff to of any good. In fact, the SATA cable broke the black backing for the contacts on the HDD clean off inside the plug itself. THe HDD still works, but it is damaged. Also, the cables are way too long for a mid tower case (I'm using a Lian-Li PC65B) All the cables are bunched up at the top around the blow hole fan. If I had enough confidence in myself, I would shorten the cables myself.

Personally, I would rate the PSU a little lower. More like 7/10.

It fit alright in my case, so I didn't dock any points off for that. The biggest peeve was the loose SATA connect.

All I have to say is go here and see the RMA nightmare.

Link to my Ultra Experience

My experience and my posting it on 20+ tech sites changed theier RMA policy. Ids it better now? Take the risk if you dare.

ED you need to get a case that has the HD mounted side ways (Power / Cable Rails are agains the side of the case). The Plugs on them would require the same change you did for the sata for them to fit. It would be a reason to make it down.

I hope dont have any problems with it. I know a few friend that have gotten it and 1 has replaced his complete system because the PSU failed (Bellowing smoke after about 3 months).

The other one replaced it after a month because the able problem listed above.

Yes, full tower case is on the way actually. I've been procrastinating...
