Swapping Grounds on PSU molex connectors?
« on: February 24, 2005, 03:51:13 PM »

While Sleeving the wires on my PSU I was very careful to make sure the red and yellow wires were placed back into the correct positions in the Molex connectors.  I may have swapped the 2 center grounds around though.  Will this cause me problems or is a ground a ground?  Any insight is appreciated

Just to confirm this, and having had first hand knowledge of doing this when I sleeved my PSU, it is fine.

You can swap all of the grounds since they all go to the exact same place in the PSU.

As long as you don't swap the red and yellows (5V and 12V), you are good to go

What kind of damage can occur if you swap the yellow and red wires?

One is 12V(yellow) the other is 5V(red).  So I guess the worst would be to provide 12 to something expecting 5.  Though you could also provide -7 to something expecting 7.  It's just not a good idea to mix those up.

um, just curious, but if both wires go to the same place, why aren't they just 1 wire?
