Today, Vantec was nice enough to send us one of their NexStar External Hard Drive Enclosures.  Sporting firewire and USB 2.0 support, this device promises make any 3.5 hard drive fast and portable.

it looks kinda cool, but it seems like a hassel to get togher.  at least you only have to do that once.

That has to be one of the worst enclosures I have seen with tiny pieces that fall out and tiny screws and short cables.........wow

edit: whoa in the middle of a double post

Actually it looks like a piece of sh*t, with horrible build quality.

Well, once you get it put together and buy longer cables, it really isn't that bad.  Installation was a nightmare though.

sad thing is installation can make you loose customers. Have to remimber 99.4% of the people out there want something simple and easy. All of the external inclosures I have, were easy to install. Even the MPC one I wrote a review on over a year ago was easy to add/remove the hard drive. No pieces would drop out at random times trying to hide.

the problems listed are often problems with all metal external enclosures, believe it or not. this is why i dont buy metal ones anymore.

I can't say that I like it at all.  It looks really old tech.  I wouldn't buy it based on looks, but the installation nightmare and lack of heat dissipation and shock absorption really keep me away.
