yeah, a old socket 7 cpu cooler. i use one myself and even a lower profile socket 370, glue em down with some artic silver epoxy. works wonderful minus 2 pci slots i never use anyways. you may just have to go a retail solution such as an orb or whatever.

Use a Socket A cooler, they're bigger and designed to cool hotter processors. I use it on my 9500 and it simply owns anything out there including the Thermaltake Giants and the Zalmans. It is also a lot cheaper. I made a mistake with mine though, the heatsink I used curves out so it doesn't fit very well. Here is an article about how to do this. I can put pics on if you want to see them.

There are realy two options.  Computerfreke gives a good one but if you want to save your pci slots uses a 1U cooler

(i use these guys for my heats sinks)

or use a VGA cooler ( this may require less modification but may not work as well)

use an Vantec Iceberq 4 or iceberq 4 pro, I think your card takes the non-pro but im not sure, I use the pro on my card and its awesome. Comes with 4 RAMsinks, the cooler (with 2 bl00 LEDs in it), and thermal grease and thermal tape.

The difference is minor but the heatsinks are NOT interchangable, your card will take one or the other, not both. I know for a fact that the Ti cards take the pro but i dont know for sure about the FXs.

A copper 1u soultion will own every GPU cooler out there. It also only takes up one slot. Those Icebergs and Orbs are about as good as the stock hsf anyways. I'd only use them as a chipset cooler.

Those VGA coolers get hyped out of proportion.  A mid-quality CPU cooler will clean the clock of any VGA-only solution out there because the fan orientation is so much more effective.

I use the Arctic Cooling VGA Silencer Rev. 2 and it works great. I have never seen my graphics card over 30C even after gaming. I'd et the Rev. 3 though becuase it's more compatible. The pci plate won't fit on mine so I have to use the regular one.

It's also pretty flat, and doesn't get in the way of anything. It's the size of the card, pretty big.

I made one last week and it works great! I put a fan in an old PCI card. I was going to get the Arctic Cooling VGA Silencer Rev. 2, but it's not compatible with 9800xt yet.

The Rev 3 is compatible I beleive but it's REALLY hard to find and it's like $32 instead of $20. My card wasn't listed as compatible but it still worked fine with the Rev 2.
