geforce4mx VS geforce2 ti
« on: April 03, 2002, 10:34:00 PM »

I was wondering which chipset would be a better investment....the geforce4mx 440 or the geforce2 ti???

The way I look at it, the geforce4mx is basically a beefed up geforce2.  Right?  Well, the geforce4mx has 64mb of DDR, which is the same deal with the geforce2 ti.  Does the geforce4 have better shading or anything else?

Basically, for the average price I'm seeing a geforce2ti, I'm seeing a geforce4mx for about 10 bucks or so cheaper.  Is it because it's not as good as a card, or is it due to competetive pricing due to demand of the new geforce4's????

oh and please don't jump on and say the geforce4mx is a crap card...I know it's not as good as the geforce3ti, but frankly, I don't have the money, and almost anything will outperform this s3 savage4 32mb pci card I have right now.  (a friend of mine was running quake3 on his pII 266 way better than I was...though my comp isn't much better at a measly 487.5mhz celley)

What I've read about the GF4MX cards is that it is nothing but an ultra (or super) GF2.

I don't really know which card would be a better deal, since my last GF2 card was the GF2 Ultra, and it rocked.

I would just save my cash a little longer, and try to get a GF3 Ti 200, but that's just me.

Be careful on how fancy a card you get. The only reason I have a gf4 4600 is because my buddy bought it for his Intel 600, he then found out his mobo did not support it. Since he did not want to wait in the return line I have a new video card :)

the gf4 mx probably will perfrom better than the gf2 ti simply because they tweaked the cards memory architecture.  that alone should make it at least as fast.

dude.

That's true.

The GF4 cards are AGP 4x and above...so if your mobo only goes up to 2x, you're screwed.

Actually...I was wrong.

After looking at the box for my GF4 Ti4400, it says AGP 2.0, so I guess it will work on an AGP 2.0

I want to see what the AGP 8x is suppose to do.  It looks (tech wise) like a killer.

As far as I know, the GF2Ti has vertex and pixel shaders, where the GF4MX does not.
