Metawave Duplexer GSM 900 Cell Phone Tower Receiver
« on: June 15, 2004, 11:02:52 PM »

ok guys..i kno u all probably arent experts in this field, but i figure that atleast 1 of you has to be.  My question is will this work as a booster of some sort.  I think it recieves the signal and boosts it, but i have no friken idea.  If it does do anything to improve reception, i could use this up in the mountains where theres little to no signal.

what ever you guys could tell me about his would be helpful...thanx

Well that will work fine, provided you have a few hundred foot base tower sitting in your back yard, proper permits from the FCC, a carrier that doesn't mind you leaching off their network with your brand new tower, and several thousand dollars worth of other equipment needed to work with it.  What you linked to is a peice of gear that actually is installed at a base station.  It takes traffic and rebroadcasts it to the other towers, effectively increasing their range.

i hope 5 days is not really considered a dead thread, but is your phone one of the newer GSM phones or the older TDMA (or something like that) phones?

if its a GSM phone, see if a TDMA one works better, the GSM phones get worse reception (i think) my sister's new GSM phone got stolen, and she went back to her old one, and it worked much better, with reception almost anywhere.

yea...we've tried just bout everything up there.  We all have tri-band fones, so we can get analog and digital signals up there.  Of course therse places to get a signal, but its either a 2 mile drive( on dirt roads) or a mile hike (up hill)

Anyone know if those antenna boosters work?  I have a samsung A620 and I live in the basement.  I get dropped calls a LOT and no service down here (I'm on sprint), When my friend's OLD alltel phone (nokia) seems to have decent service in the basement. Other friend's new motorola (alltel) seems to have good service in the basement, too.

So...do they work?
