I double checked all of the datasheets and the only part that im questioning is the regulator, but it's putting out the correct voltage, this particular cap doesn't have a polarity, it's a 4.7mF 50V. The only thing left is the reciever. Ill have to get another one tomarrow to double check.

I have had a remote like this for a number of years now, and I actualy *gasp* bought software to use with it: uICE has served me well, and the tech support is great.  I bought it b/c it was one of the only pieces of software that supported XP when it first came out.  Now everything does, but the software itself is still excptionally well written.  Check it out at www.mediatexx.com.

Just replaced the cap and the reciever and still getting nothing. The circuit is set up in a 6 column format just like the schematic and yes the diode is in the right polarity. The reciever is still getting 5V and outputting about 1.6V, the only thing left is the remote? I am using just an everyday TV remote, but i've also used a wide variety of others as well.... *bangs head on the table*

I AM AN IDIOT!!!. 4.7KOhm is yellow; violet; red;...............

I had a 47khm which is yellow; violet; orange.....

Cheap ass faded resistors, yeah it's not their fault im an idiot, I hope someone learns from this... Excuse me while I go back to beating myself on the head with a hammer....

So can someone confirm two questions please.

Can this be hoocked up to the USB insted of the com port and can an LED be added so when it recives data the LED lights on, like in the TV when you press a button it lets you know that its recived data......

first - I think most of the products on that search result are emitters.  you need a receiver.  something like this:

not sure of the rating but it should be something like that kind.

second - those caps seem to be the same rating needed for the circuit.  they're just SMD.

third - that resistor seem to be rather small.  but a quick look at the rating, i guess it should do.

fourth - I used the same kind (glass casing) of diode.  that'll work.

I can quite happly follow a diagram and use a S/I but I hve no clue when it comes to what I need a sh*tz.
