Need help selecting hs/f for my new CPU
« on: February 22, 2004, 07:03:13 PM »

Well  I'm just about to order a P4 3.0E along with my gigabyte motherboard from newegg. As some of you may have noticed certain chips with the Prescott core are OEM ONLY and dont have the hs/f. So i need help and suggestions on which hs/f to get. Now i dont want to spend big bucks to get the slk-800 with an additional fan. So i need a good effecient all in one for this chip. I was looking at http://www.newegg.com/app/viewProductDesc.asp?description=35-106-032&depa=0
does anyone have any input on this particular one?
For a max price ill say 25-30.
Thanks

I wonder why you would want to buy a Prescott Core, when all the reviews say that this revision of Prescott is in fact slower and hotter, with far less overclocking potential, than a Northwood core at equivalent MHz.

A 3.0C would run Cooler, Faster, and Overclock better.

Prescott is like the Socket 423 P4 (if you remember those) in that it is a testbed for features that are not enabled and actually performs below its predecesor.  In a few months, Prescotts may be faster than Northwoods, but right now, I would have to advise strongly against getting one.

i have a few friends with that hs/f and it has worked well for them.  Not the most silent of hs/f's but definitely effective.
