HDD VU meter troubles
« on: February 16, 2004, 08:30:10 PM »

My current project is to make a box with both a HDD VU meter and a 7segment CPU display.  I am having some problems on the VU meter end.  When I test it (jumper together, leads 4,5 on optoisolator shorted) only half of the LED's light up.  The first 5 light up, but none of the rest.  If the jumper is removed(for meter-like operation, not bargraph), it will start at 1 and goes up to 5, but stops there and does nothing.  LED 5 just stays lit.  Any ideas as to what I did wrong here?

Sounds like you need to configure the reference voltage so it scales the whole bargraph. I actually build on of thoe kits few years ago (still use it for visual reference when I'm too lazy to use my multimeter  ), and it worked off the idea that the input needed to be calibrated to the reference voltage.

I put 12v across it and I got 8/10 LEDs.  My guess is that I used a wrong resistor somewhere and I should check that.  Thanks for the hint.

Well, I checked it and I had put a 1k resistor in the place of the 10k one.  I'm waiting for my iron to heat up so I can replace it, will report the results.
