Max Payne

Max Payne.

The game that was hyped too no end, actually, comes pretty damn close to the hype.

The game is pretty damn good.  Here's my breakdown:

Story:  Well thought out.  Makes you understand just what the hell you're there for.
Levels:  If it weren't for a few jumping puzzle-type levels, the level design was very good.  A kind of short game, but the New York Minute option of the game is original.
Sound:  There's gunshots, groans, grunts, footsteps, bad guys yapping, and gunshots.  What more do you want?  Positional audio works good too.
Video:  Awesome.  With my GF3, and everything cranked to MAX, the game looks beautiful.  From the shell casings flying to the little blood drops flying off a bad guy I just blew apart, the details are extreme.
Control:  Same A,W,S,D movement, mouse aim/fire controls as in FPS.  This though is a 3rd person game.  A little hard to WALK in the game, but nothing extraordinary in controls.
Gameplay:  Great!  Love the "Bullet Time" function of the game.  Once you get use to it, you'll use it ALOT.  I'm pretty good at getting head shots with bullet time.  Everything is smooth, and the game flows very well.  Also, the enemies get harder as you get better.  Expect more baddies as you get better.
Overall:  I give this game an 8.5 outta 10.  The 6MB patch dropped its overall score, and my ONE desktop crash didn't help either.  It's a solid game, with little bugs (ie. desktop crash).  I totally recommend this game to anyone who loves shooters, and anyone who loves 3rd person games with shooting.  System requirements aren't too high, but to get a total experience, a good 32MB/64MB video card and fast processor 800+ is needed.  For damn near 50 bucks, I for one, wasn't let down.

Yes it is.

I believe it came out on Sunday or Monday, whatever days those were...July 29 or 30th, maybe even sooner, July 25th.

I bought it on July 30th.  I paid an outrageous price of 50 bucks for it, and I was hoping that the game didn't disappoint me.  It didn't!

It rocks!!!  If you can try it, do that, and see if it fits your liking, but DAMN!!!  I am loving "Bullet Time"!!!!

*clears voice* Officially we can not condone piracy of any type.

With that said, un-officially: my thoughts exactly!

You can always do that, but most of the "warez" sites aren't reliable, and most of the games there aren't very stable.

I'd wait about a week or two, then Max Payne might be on sale at Best Buy, Compusa, or somewhere.

That's true.  I can't say I never did anything like that, but once or twice a year, I actually do buy a game, and this one did not disappoint.

I'm not gonna preach about piracy, mostly because I've done my share of aquiring games in "not so legal" ways.

max payne is cool!  i played
for about 4 hours this weekend and got to level 7. (i'm not sure how many
total missions but i'm still in chapter 1).
the graphics and sound are tops!  the controls are typical shooter.  the
slow mo "bullet time" is really cool!  you can go into bullettime by
rightclicking or by doing a special bullittime move (ex: shift+a) does a
slowmo bullet time jumping roll to the left.  your bullettime meter goes
down after you use it but i think it recharges after a while. also sometimes when you kill the last badguy in a room it goes into

bullettime automaticly to show the guy die and fall backwards in slowmo.
the ai is good with badguys shooting at you then dodging around a corner or
in a doorway.  the only ai problem that i've found so far is that they can
see you as soon as you're in line of sight (even if they have thier backs to
you)  doesn't leave much room for sneaking up on people.
the only other problem i've found is that i would have liked a key that
changes it from third person to first person.  the animations on your
character are cool (slowmo diving and rolling is really cool) but you're
head gets in the way sometimes.  and after watching a slowmo dive for the
100th time is unneccesarry... i'd rather be able to play in 1st person.

other than that it's gravy.  i haven't had it crash at all.  you can even
alt+tab back to windows and back into the game with no problems. (i hate games that don't let you do this)...  the only
technical problem i've had with it is that everynow and then during level
loading screen i'll see the start menu from windows blink in and out at the
bottom.
