what i want is dual monitors. i dont want them to show the same thing. i have an ati radeon with a vga and s-video output. now what i want to know is will a vga to composite and s-video adapter work in reverse? i hope that clears up a lot of questons that you had to help me out. thanks.

No.  Like x24 said, they're proprietary.

S-Video -> VGA isn't just like switching pins around, it's a different signal all together.  That's why the converter box in needed.
