What resistor will i need?
« on: September 07, 2003, 09:44:03 PM »

I am going to connect 4 LEDS up to the 6v on the PSU. The LED's are Ultra bright blue with an MCD of 1500 and I think they run on 3.5 volts. What resistor will i need to run them?

Also while Im here I wll also announce that I have almost finished my Playstation Mod. I have changed a few things though, I have put hinges on the lid, I have put an on/off switch and a reset switch on the playstation and i have put the Power supply in a case so I dont keep electricuting myself when I open the case.
I am also planning on making an inferred remote to turn it on and off and I am also planning in putting leds under the Playstation lid so it lights up. When I have finished this I will post some pics.

If you run each individually with a resistor, a 1/4 watt 220 ohm resistor would be fine.

If you want to do a series, 2 of them un-resistored would work (read the other comments about uncontrolled series use, however).

I run 4 3.3v led's in series on the 12v line of my machine with no problems. In fact, there's no detectable brightness between using them that way or using individuals with a 680 ohm resistor.

6V from the PSU? Or do you mean 7V?
Can you tell me the mA rating of the leds?

The mA is probably 20 mA, Why don't you download x24's Led Calculator? just search the forums for it, Also here is a good link that will tell you what wattage rating the resistor must be: http://linear1.org/ckts/led.php
