I like the iwill kk266, but there is a whole thread on mobo selection (I think the guy ended up choosing a soyo dragon) thats just recent here.

As for the hsf combo.. avoid the factory one that comes from AMD. I'll let ya know how my new copper GW works after Gideon shipps it out :D

If you can stand the noise the Swifttech is sweet, actually I think all the good hsf's have a ~45ish db level, 7000rpm delta or such. I did not think 45dba was that loud but it is VERY noticable. I can't use the speaker phone when playing with friends anymore.

thanx =)

now i've just gotta wait for this check to clear from my latest job (they pay me 300 bux to build em a machine... rotfl), and i'll order the ayhja (it's only a few bux more) and the swiftec (i don't mind the noise)...

mobo-wise... i'd love something along the lines of an abit-w/ soft-jumpers, that's sooo sweet. i'll look for that other topic.... mmm, the soyo dragon looks sweet, i think i might get it... i'll wait and see how the other guy does w/ it...

thanx ;)

Good luck with that combo, and IMO great choices so far!

I've got an Asus A7M266 right now, which has been a pretty good board.  Unfortunately Asus/AMD seem to have decided that the ability to change multipliers in the bios will NEVER be an option with this setup, despite preview boards having that feature.  I bought a golden socket adapter instead, hehe!

Anyway, you should have loads of good choices for DDR motherboards at this point (I didn't 4 months ago).  I may end up upgrading again in the next six months, once a Palimino of at least 1.5Ghz unoverclocked has hit the market.  You might want to keep an eye out for reviews of Sis' new DDR chipsets, as well as the nVidia Crush (rumored to be delayed now, but you never know).  Those have great paper specs, at least, even compared to things currently available.

You meant cooling the processor right?  (sorry, just a little confused after reading another post about RAMsinks).

I can say that the Crucial PC2100 DDR works fine in my case with only my case fans at up to 150Mhz (fsb, x2 for DDR = 300Mhz).  I've actually booted into Windows at 160Mhz, but it wasn't stable at all.  I don't think the instability was the RAM though, more likely my processor just not liking to be at 1.6Ghz very well even at the max voltage the motherboard will let me set (~1.85).  This is supported by the fact that after I installed the golden socket, changed the multiplier, and booted up, I still couldn't hit 1.6Ghz stably, even though my fsb was below 150Mhz (where it was stable using only the fsb settings before).  Right now I'm at 1.533Ghz and stable (other than crashes because of the slowly degrading OS..)
