You just made me think of a good idea: What if you got one of those light sensing diodes and put in the front of your case with dark plexi infront so normal light doesnt affect it and when you wanna turn your comp on just shine a bright light into it (keychain led light). No one would know how to do it unless they saw what you were doing and knew what you were doing.  I might just do this myself and see how it turns out.

A very short range motion sensing switch? just wave your hand in front of it... and hey presto! I looked into this idea, but could'nt find a cheap one, so trying different ideas...

Usually reed switches come complete (reed switch and the magnet that pulls the reed towards the contact to complete the switch).  I've seen some in radioshack small enough to be used on a case, and have the magnet be chained to a keyring if you want..

something about having a magnet inside the case of my computer strikes me as a bad idea. that light sensing idea though... that sounds bad-ass.
